Sungta Hooman (Shrimp Curry)
Ingredients
Ground paste
3 cups grated coconut
1 small ball of tamarind
1.5 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp tumeric powder
5 peppercorns
2 cloves
4 garlic pods
1 cup warm water
Curry
1 tsp salt
1 small onion
1 cup peeled, de-veined shrimp
1 tbsp oil
Method
Apply the salt to the shrimp and keep aside
Mix all the ingredients for the paste and grind to a thick paste
Chop onions into fine pieces
Heat oil in a vessel
Saute onion till lightly browned and add the shrimp
Saute the shrimp till translucent.
Pour the ground mix, add water to make curry of required consistency and bring to a boil
Serve hot with rice

Fish curry - rice is the staple diet for most goans. The shrimps can be substituted by steak pieces of other fish as well. Just reverse the order in which Shrimp & ground paste are added.
