Kanda & Batata Bhajji

Ingredients


3 medium sized potatoes sliced
1 large onion julienne cut
2 cups oil

For Batter
2 cups gram flour
1 tsp semolina (gives crispiness)
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp tumeric powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
2 tsp salt
2 cups lukewarm water

Method
Mix all the dry ingredients listed for the batter
Add little water at a time and mix, ensure no lumps are formed.
Add water till required consistency is obtained.

Heat oil in a round bottomed vessel on high heat.
Once the oil starts smoking, reduce to medium heat.
Dip each potato slice in the batter and place it in the oil
The slice should be completely immersed in oil.
After about 2 mins, turn the slice so that other side is also browned.
Remove and place on a sheet of paper so that excess oil is absorbed.

Mix all the onion pieces with the batter and put chunks of the battered onions in the oil.
Turn sides after about 2 mins
Remove and place on a sheet of paper so that excess oil is absorbed.

Serve hot sprinkled with chaat masala.
