Mussels Masala
1 cup cleaned mussels
1 big onion
3/4 cup dry desiccated coconut
1 tbsp coriander seeds
3 garlic pods
3 whole red chilies
6 peppers
4 cloves
1 tsp sized ball of tamarind
1 tsp tumeric
Method
Chop 1/2 the onion into fine pieces. Julienne cut the remaining 1/2.
Cut garlic into thin slices
Heat oil, fry cloves, garlic and pepper
Add in coriander seeds & red chili.
Roast till well browned.
Roast till well browned.
In a grinder add turmeric & the roasted mixture. Grind into a thick paste with minimal water
Sauté the julienne cut onion till brown
Add in the dry coconut and brown well but be careful to not burn.
Grind the mix with tamarind into a thick paste.
Boil water in a vessel.
Add in the mussels & chopped onion
Cook for 2 mins
Add in the coriander masala and boil for 2 mins.
Add 1/2 cup water & the ground coconut paste.
Boil for another 2 mins
