Mooga Gaati
Ingredients
For Sprouts
1 cup Moong
For Ground Paste
1 cup grated coconut
2 tsp tamarind paste
1.5 tbsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp peppercorns
1/4 tsp jeera
5 dried red chillies
1/2 tsp tumeric
For Curry
3 medium sized green chilies
1 tsp jaggery
2 tsp salt
For Tempering
1/2 tsp hing
strand of curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seed
Garnish
1 tbsp chopped cilantro
Method
Sprouts
2 days prior soak Moong in water and keep overnight
1 day prior morning, put moong in sieve and keep covered whole day so that they sprout
At night put moong back in water and leave whole night
Next morning, wash moong well and throw out the peels.
Ground Paste
Grind all ingredients under Ground paste into a thick fine paste
Curry
Add 2 cups water in a vessel and let boil
Add the sprouted moong. Throw out any more peels that come off.
Add green chillies, salt, jaggery and let cook for 10 mins
Add in the ground mix and bring to boil
Tempering
In a separate vessel, add hing, kadipatta, mustard seeds to oil and let splutter.
Add this mix to moong
Garnish with Cilantro
